Hi dear godparents, this was the letter I wrote to ELA’s sponsors in APRIL 2024.
Kenya and Malawi are experiencing a heavy rainy season, in Malawi more than 3/4 of the country has been affected by floods and the situation is getting worse by the minute. Even in Kenya, we have daily evening downpours, which washed away cars and slums of Nairobi. In our village Mazembe, where ELA’s centre is located, floods covered all the fields and cut off the villagers from the asphalt road. Fortunately, my team went to a nearby city 110 km away in early April and bought everything necessary for the second set of gifts for your darling children, and the things are safely stored in ELA’s centre, which is far enough from the fields and is not flooded. But we can’t donate gifts to your children just yet, because it’s too dangerous to walk on standing water with wet sand at the bottom, and by coming to ELa, we would endanger childrens’ safety and health. Therefore, I warmly, warmly ask for your understanding, because I will send you pictures of your children in May, when the rain will subside and when the villages will be safe for hiking again. Schools also closed their doors and ordered families to move to relatives’ homes in the north of the country if possible.
MAY 2024
Information about what is happening in Malawi;
The rain has finally subsided in Malawi and the water has finally dried up in the flooded fields, the ground has dried and it was safe enough for ELA’s angels to walk to the centre and collect the second set of gifts of the year. After a short survey of parents’ ideas and opinions about what would be most useful for children, most of them said that a large bath towel would come in very handy, as there is usually only one for the whole family.
In addition to a large towel of the 1st quality (so that it will be durable for a long time), each child also received a bar of soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, notebooks, pens (3rd to 8th grade) or pencils (kindergarteners to 2nd grade). ). ELA’s teachers told me that the joy was immense when the children compared their towels and everyone liked them very much and the accessories as well, and that the laughter was loud throughout the days of the gift giving.
THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF THIS BEAUTIFUL STORY THAT IS CHANGING THE LIVES OF HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN AND ENHANCING THEIR CHILDHOOD.
